FrontBackandSides Frequently Asked Questions

What are you standard waist and shoulder strap lengths?

They are both a smidge under 2m. I find the straps to be long enough for me to do a cross on the back and tie easily round the front. I'm about a 16/18.

Longer straps are an option for most colours. If you would like longer straps, please let us know.

How padded/sturdy is the padded waist?

The FrontBackandSides MT is designed to be worn apron style so the padding is actually more for reduced cutting than weight distribution. Well in my mind it is anyway- my customers seem to have other ideas though. I know customers who wear theirs non apron with large toddlers and find it to be very comfortable.

It is actually 2 layers of fleece so not a ssc waist. The waist band in all FBS's, whether padded or not, is fairly sturdy as the 3 layers of the body extend to the bottom of the waistband.

Is there another layer in between the external cord layers to make it sturdier?

Yes there is. There is also some reinforcement in the headrest along with padding. That extends approx. 3/4 way down the carrier. This allows the bottom to cinch easier for small babies.

What are the benefits of babywearing?

What is a Mei Tai?

A FrontBackandSides Mei Tai (pronounced may-tie), also sometimes referred to as an Asian style baby carrier (ABC), is a soft, versatile carrier based on a traditional Chinese Mei Tai. It has a rectangular body with three straps, 2 long shoulder straps and 1 long waist strap. The body has a large, angled headrest and angled shoulder straps for optimal comfort. The waist strap is straight, allowing the bottom of the MT to be folded over to shorten the height if wanted.

As the name suggests, your baby can be carried on your front, back or side. By using more than one Mei Tai you can easily carry twins or siblings!

It is quite unlike any modern structured carrier. There are no buckles, snaps or fiddly adjustments and both parents can happily and easily use the same MT. The ergonomic way in which baby is carried (bum below knees with the whole spine supported) is not only better for baby but also for you. There is virtually no pulling on your back or shoulders as baby’s weight is not pulling away from you but instead is held close to you in a natural way. This also means that your centre of gravity is hardly affected, eliminating wobble and sway which can be experienced with structured carriers.

There is exceptional weight distribution with a MT. Newborns up to chunky toddlers can be carried with ease as the weight is spread over 2 shoulders, the back and hips

.

Does one size fit all?

In a word, yes! The shoulder straps are each 2m long and the waist strap 2m long in total. This should fit the majority of people. If you are in doubt then please contact me so we can provide longer (or shorter) straps.
